  • R&B singer Brandy knows a thing or two about making a R&B hit. She has sold millions of albums and has a few platinum singles under her belt, including her 1998 duet with Monica, “The Boy Is Mine,” which went 2x Platinum and resulted in a Grammy win. Brandy brought her expertise to the latest episode of 'The Cosign' and reacted to today’s R&B hits. From Snoh Aalegra’s “Whoa” to Kehlani’s “Everybody Business” to Luh Kel’s “Tweakin,” she shared her honest opinion on current R&B hits. As an R&B fan, its kind of annoying that Luh Kel and Kiana Lede were shown before Brent Faiyaz, Masego, Lucky Daye, SiR, and so many other amazing rising artists. Genius kind of went mainstream here, and you can tell Brandi would've wanted more singers.

Giveon has the richest tone ever. He’s not afraid to be vulnerable. I would pick him too.

We need more 90s and early 00s R&B artists to guide these new artists the same way Whitney, Mariah, Aretha, Sade, Anita, Prince, Luther, Janet and Michael guided them. Imagine Brandy, Monica, Mary, Toni, Usher, Xscape, TLC, Joe, Tevin Campbell giving podcasts about vocals, performing, songwriting, industry secrets, etc. Or just starting production teams in the industry

see what shes talking about is something I really dont like about new age RnB. It doesnt feel like RNb, It feels more like Hip Hop singing. it feels like RnB isnt like its own genre anymore and that makes me real sad. This isnt to say all RnB artists nowadays are like this, not even slightly. But Its a growing pattern Ive noticed over the past decade or so.

I enjoy the cosign, but you guys miss the mark a lot of the time. No Ari lennox, dvsn, SiR etc.. C'mon. Vocalist should be appreciated, and a lot of the picks are not. R&B is Black.
