I like how this movie gave a realistic ending but still managed to put a smile on my face :)

"even in her own mind, she's not the main character. she's just existing." this is so powerful. Ellie is just so selfless and such a good portrayal of any Asian trying to get through life as someone who looks different than others around them, because of our heritage and culture too. i know i grew up "existing" too.

this movie is art. the writing, the cinematography, the acting, especially that animation at the beginning and the scene where aster & ellie went back and forth on that wall. i LOVED it, and applaud alice wu for her work on this.

Just saw this. Great movie. Really recommended for young adults, but really for anyone. Funny, smart and a bit different.

"You're the only person who write that thing, so write that thing. Don't write the thing that somebody else could write." Alice Wu is such a brilliant writer and director. The story is unique but relatable (if that makes sense lol).

I also saw ellie chu as someone who kind of pushes her feelings down because yea she sees herself as the side character but once she met paul she was able to kind of express her feelings to aster through him without any of the consequences of putting herself out there. Like she gets to tell aster things as paul that she would never actually tell aster herself and thats why my favorite scene of the movie is when paul and aster went on their second date at the restaurant.

Amazing, thoughtful, well-written, well-acted, well-produced movie. Cried three times watching it. So somber and bittersweet. Alice Wu is a genius
